Badges
Your agency's own badges and the ROK catalog side by side — switch catalog badges on, duplicate one to customise it, and see how many people hold each.
The Badges page lists everything your agency can award: the badges you designed, and the badges ROK maintains for every agency (the ROK catalog). Open it from Recognition → Badges. Designing a badge happens in the badge designer, and granting one by hand on Awards. The badges you hold are on your own badge wall under Account settings → Badges, not here.
Nothing is awarded until recognition is switched on in Recognition settings. This page works either way, so you can prepare your badges first.
| Action | Needs |
|---|---|
| See this page and open your agency's badges to read them | Manage badges or Award badges |
| New badge, Edit, Activate / Deactivate, delete | Manage badges |
| Switch on a catalog badge, switch it off, Duplicate it | Manage badges |
The buttons appear only for people who hold Manage badges, and the database refuses these changes from anyone else. Holding Award badges alone gives you a read-only view of this page.
Search and New badge
Search badges… filters the first two tabs by name, description, category or skill; the By group tab always shows everything. New badge opens a blank badge designer.
Our badges
The badges your agency owns, with the count in the tab label. Each card shows:
- the artwork and the name — select the name to open the badge;
- chips for the category, the tier when one is recorded, Expires if awards lapse, Secret if it is hidden from members until earned, and Inactive;
- the plain-language criteria ("How it is earned");
- once anyone has received it, how many members are holding it and how many have lapsed.
An inactive badge's card is faded. With Manage badges each card has three buttons:
- Edit opens the designer.
- Deactivate takes effect at once. An inactive badge is never awarded — automatically or by hand — and stops counting toward any badge group. Awards already made are kept. Activate reverses it.
- Delete (the bin icon) asks you to confirm. If nobody has been awarded the badge it says "This cannot be undone"; otherwise it tells you how many awards will be deleted with it.
With no badges yet the tab reads No badges yet. and suggests designing one or switching on a catalog badge; with a search that matches nothing it reads No badges match that search.
ROK catalog
Badges ROK maintains for every agency. They are deliberately general — any quiz, a count, or time with the agency — so they mean the same thing in a fire brigade and in a surf rescue club. A catalog badge does nothing in your agency until you switch it on. Catalog cards cannot be opened or edited here; ROK authors them.
- Switch on turns the button into On, and the badge starts being awarded as-is from each member's next qualifying activity. Select On to switch it off again: new awards stop, awards already earned are kept, and the badge stops counting toward any group.
- Duplicate copies the badge into Our badges so you can change its artwork or criteria. The copy starts inactive so it cannot award itself before you have reviewed it, gets a numbered slug if one of your badges already uses the original's, and is not placed in any group. Activate it when it is ready.
Duplicating leaves the catalog badge untouched. If the original is also switched on, both can be awarded — switch the original off if your copy replaces it.
By group
The same badges arranged as tracks, resolved the way members' badge walls resolve them. There is one section per badge group that holds at least one badge your agency can award, with a count and a ROK catalog chip on catalog tracks. A catalog badge you have not switched on is not part of any track. The tab label counts those non-empty groups.
Below the tracks, Ungrouped lists your own badges and the catalog badges you have switched on that sit in no group. Cards for your own badges carry the same buttons as on Our badges. With nothing to show, the tab reads Nothing to group yet.
When badges are actually awarded
The database decides who earned what. A badge is awarded when the member's activity reaches the server, so a quiz passed offline earns its badge when the device syncs, and a device can never award a badge to itself. Changing or switching on a badge does not re-check anyone on the spot: each member is checked at their next qualifying activity, and badges built on streaks, time with the agency or reading are checked once a day.
