Run recognition
The path for training officers — choosing the rules, building badges, tracks and the level ladder, switching recognition on, and running awards and recertification.
Recognition — points, badges, tracks, levels and streaks — is off until your agency switches it on, so you can build everything first and turn it on when it is ready. This path is in that order.
Three permissions split the work: Manage badges to design badges, tracks and the ladder; Award badges to grant and revoke by hand; Manage settings to switch recognition on and set points. A new agency gives all three to its Admin group — give the badge permissions to the group your training officers are in.
1. Understand how awards happen
The database decides who earned what, from the activity it records — quiz passes, completions, acknowledgments — including activity done offline, which counts when the phone syncs. Nobody's device can award itself. Read how recognition works first.
2. Decide the rules
On Settings → Recognition (opens the admin console) you set what each activity is worth, the streak bonus, and whether there is a leaderboard. Two deliberate defaults are worth keeping in mind: reading never earns points, and the leaderboard is off. See Recognition settings.
3. Start from the ROK catalog
ROK maintains general-purpose badges and tracks every agency inherits. On Badges (opens the admin console), Switch on uses one as it is, and Duplicate gives you your own copy to change. See the ROK catalog and your agency's copies.
4. Design your own badges
New badge opens the badge designer: the artwork, how it is earned (an ordered list of steps), whether it is awarded automatically or by hand, and whether it expires — which is how a recertification badge works. The quickest start is the Create a badge for this button on a quiz or guide's edit page.
5. Build tracks
A track groups badges into a path members work through — "First 90 days", "Swiftwater". A badge can be the capstone for completing a track. See Badge groups and how badge groups work.
6. Set the level ladder
Levels are earned with points, and a rung can also require badges or a whole track. Keep ROK's default ladder or customise it on Levels (opens the admin console). See how levels gate on badges.
7. Switch it on
Turn recognition on in Settings → Recognition (opens the admin console) and save. From then on, points are banked for activity — not back-paid for activity before the switch — while badge steps count members' earlier history the next time they are checked.
8. Run it
- Awards (opens the admin console) shows, per badge, who holds it, who is due to recertify, whose has lapsed and who has not earned it; award or revoke by hand and export the roster. See Awards.
- The dashboard's Recognition section shows head-counts — never a ranking of individuals.
- Members see their own points, level, tracks, badges and, if you switched it on, the leaderboard under Account settings → Badges. They can share a badge as a verifiable credential — see how shared badges and credentials work.
You're set up. Check Awards before each training period for badges that are about to lapse.
