Levels
The ladder members climb — the points each rung needs and the badges it can require — and how to customise it or go back to the ROK default.
Levels are the ladder members climb. Each rung has a name, the points needed to reach it, optional artwork, and — optionally — badges or whole badge groups the member must also hold. Open the page from Recognition → Levels. Members see where they stand on their own badge wall (Account settings → Badges): their current rung, what the next one still needs, and why a lapse moved them down.
| Action | Needs |
|---|---|
| See the ladder | Manage badges or Award badges |
| Customise the ladder, edit rungs, Save ladder, Use the ROK ladder | Manage badges |
Without Manage badges the page is read-only, and the database refuses ladder changes — and the re-levelling that follows a save — from anyone who lacks it.
How a member's level is worked out
The note at the top of the page says it in one line; in full:
- Points and badges. A rung is reached when the member has its points and holds every badge it requires. Points are the member's running total in your agency.
- The climb stops at the first rung they miss. A locked level holds someone below it however many points they have — banking the points for level 5 does not skip a locked level 4.
- Current standing, not history. The level is worked out from what the member holds now, so a required badge that is revoked moves them down at once, and one that lapses moves them down within a day.
The ROK default ladder
Until you customise it, your agency uses ROK's default ladder, labelled The ROK default ladder and shown read-only. As shipped it has seven rungs and requires no badges:
| Level | Name | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Recruit | 0 |
| 2 | Operator | 250 |
| 3 | Senior Operator | 750 |
| 4 | Specialist | 1,500 |
| 5 | Team Leader | 3,000 |
| 6 | Instructor | 6,000 |
| 7 | Veteran | 12,000 |
Customise the ladder
Customise the ladder copies the default's rungs into an editable draft. Nothing is saved until you select Save ladder — leave the page first and the draft is gone. Once saved, the header reads Your agency's ladder, and your ladder replaces the default entirely; the two are never merged.
Each rung shows its artwork, Level number, points and how many badge requirements it has. While editing:
- Name and Points needed. Level 1 is fixed at 0 points with no requirements — "Everyone starts here".
- Also requires (level 2 and up). Add a requirement, choose A badge or A badge group, then which one. Badges come from your active badges and the catalog badges you have switched on; groups from yours and the active ROK catalog groups. For a group, enter how many of its badges are needed, or leave it blank (it shows All) to require the whole group — "all" keeps meaning all as the group changes. The bin removes a requirement. A rung with none reads "Points only".
- Artwork opens the badge designer for that rung's artwork; Done closes it.
- The up and down arrows move a rung. Level numbers follow position and the points travel with the rung, so check the points still climb. The bin removes a rung and renumbers the rest.
- Add a level appends a rung named after its number, 500 points above the last.
If every badge in a required group is switched off or inactive, that requirement stops gating rather than freezing everyone at the rung below.
Checks before saving
Problems appear in a red box as you edit, and Save ladder stays disabled until they are fixed: level numbers must run 1, 2, 3 with no gaps; each rung needs a name and at least as many points as the one below it; a rung cannot require the same badge or group twice; level 1 must be 0 points with no requirements; and rung artwork cannot use Signal Red. A requirement with no badge or group chosen is refused when you save.
Saving
Save ladder deletes the rungs you removed (with their requirements), saves the rest, and then re-levels every member against the new ladder. You see "Ladder saved." with the number of members re-levelled. If the ladder saves but the re-levelling fails, the message says so — standings then catch up as each member's points or badges next change.
Use the ROK ladder
Once your agency has its own ladder, Use the ROK ladder goes back to the default. The confirmation says what happens: your levels and their badge requirements are deleted, everyone is re-levelled against the default ladder, and points and badges are untouched. Confirm with Use the ROK ladder; the page shows Back on the ROK ladder.
